Our Russkiy Toy Show Journey

It has been a journey for sure! First in obtaining our first two, Lovey and Pepper, and finally getting them registered with the CKC so as to start their show career. With just the two of them competing it was a hoot to see which would get the Breed and earn 1 point toward their championship! I was able to purchase another male Russian Toy from Jerome Podell in the US as well as another female (on a co-ownership) from Terry Benefit in the US. Although it was a challenge to show all four, and my husband certainly went up to bat for me there, it definitely was a great introduction to the breed here in Western Canada where many people were not aware of them. It did surprise me when the judges said they knew "someone" with a Russian Toy and thought they were a great little breed and were glad to see them in the show ring finally. Most, if not all, were very gentle and patient with them on the table. In face one judge said " I know they hate the table. At workshops we have on these guys, we are told 'as long as you can get bites and balls, you can see structure when they move!" I had to laugh at that one. But I was glad of the understanding as Pepper absolutely hates the table, turns himself into a pretzel for examination...but wags his tail and loves the judge when he is talked to gently and offered a treat! Lovey is great on the table. Ricky (my senior male puppy) is learning it's not so bad while Nicky ( my 1.5 year old female) is resigned and not happy, tucking her bum under her as though she is expecting a bite from behind!
